Peniel

Pronounced: P’EH-nee-ehl

Peniel and his brother, Yehun, were brought to EGCH in January 2016. Their mother had died over a year prior, and their grandmother was taking care of them, until she became very sick. Their father came to Hawassa with them.

Shortly after their arrival, as is standard procedure, Peniel and Yehun were tested for HIV. Peniel tested positive, and Yehun tested negative. After notifying their father, Teshome, he was also tested. Results indicated that Teshome was also HIV positive.

Yehun remained at EGCH. Peniel remained in Hawassa living with his father for some time. Eventually Peniel moved into House of Hope in November 2017.
